Puglia / Italy
Welcome to perfect Puglia in Southern Italy, where we discover this
agricultural secret paradise.
One of southern Italy's best kept secrets, Puglia is an ancient land, known as 'the Italian's Italy' because Italian’s go on holiday here… not just international gastronomads. There are so many wonders that your eyes practically pop out of your head – the fruity sexy wine, the humble but delicious pasta, bread, olive oil, burrata and seafood. Imagine walking around an organic estate picking vegetables, herbs, capers, prickly pears and fruit, cooking with them then sleeping at the luxury property with nothing more pressing to do than sip on susumaniello wine at sunset in the vineyard.
We spend half the week in the Baroque city of Lecce and the other half in a gorgeous masseria (farm house) in the countryside to learn about burrata, orrecchiette and semolina bread.
They make so much olive oil and good wine here that everyone is good looking and happy. You don't know how much you miss Pugia till you leave, then you long to return to their gentle ways and charming hospitality.
This tour includes a significant amount of walking in warm temperatures. For your comfort and enjoyment, participants should be in good health and able to walk for extended periods.

“The entire trip was fabulous. I appreciate and fully understand the organisation that goes into creating such an adventure. Ultimately it all rests on Peta. We had such a wild time and I will fully recommend it to friends. There was such a mix of personalities and that is enjoyable. Peta was fabulous!”
“We had an absolutely fabulous time wandering around Puglia. The weather, food and company was outstanding – we couldn’t have asked for much more.”
Our mission has always been to provide really authentic gastronomic and cultural experiences. We travel initially to lose ourselves and next to find ourselves, because travel cracks us open and so pushes us over all the walls and low horizons that habits and defensiveness set up.
Behind every person and every household is a story of local traditions and daily life in villages and towns. Traditional food is about ancestral memories and looking back and holding on to old cultures – it is profoundly about identity. Come with us and partake in the honesty, grace, generosity and fun that is a Peta Mathias tour. Suitable for fit and healthy gastronomic adventurers!
